Description WW2 Germany Infanteriemesser 42 fighting knife; scarce “Model 42 Infantry Knife” with original metal scabbard. All parts are intact; excellent overall condition, considering the age. Original WW2 era German Army Model 42 Infantry Knife (Infanteriemesser 42) fighting dagger in hard-to-find practically unused condition. This is a typical late-war specimen made as the “last-ditch” attempt to supply Wehrmacht troops with a reliable and simple to produce fighting knife. Infanteriemesser 42 is a classic WW2 German boot knife – tough full-tang construction with an integral guard and plain wood handle scales on 3 iron pins. Original metal scabbard has a simple metal belt hanger/boot clip. This exact type is illustrated on pages 212-216 of the excellent French reference book by Christian Mary Knives and Daggers-Bayonets Used by the German Army During 1914-1945 (see the book’s page scans attached). This fighting knife is excellent condition – only slightly used; no pitting, contact marks on the pommel, dings, or edge nicks on the blade; the tip is intact. This fighter is is about 10-1/4” / 26 cm overall; the blade is about 5-3/4” / 14.5 cm. The edge is very sharp still; no damage to wood handle grips; this tape is VERY rare this nice. Original wood handle scales are in excellent condition for the type – no chips, cracks, or dings; al parts are tight with no play. Original metal scabbard is in great condition overall. To me it looks like it has been repainted as the black finish is too smooth and completely intact throughout without a singe chip or a scratch.
