WW2 Utica Cutlery 10″ blade M1 bayonet (not a cut-down); rare BROWN GRIPS type, original MK7 scabbard; rare type in excellent condition

$33.51 $55.29
Description WW2 Utica M1 bayonet, 10″ blade (NOT a cut-down) in scarce unused condition, original M7 composition scabbard included. Rare “brown grips” type in excellent overall condition, considering the age. Original WW2 era manufacture M1 bayonet for the M1 Garand rifle manufactured by Utica Cutlery in Utica, NY (UC on ricasso) in scarce unused condition. This is the 10-inch M1 specimen, not a cut-down “M1942” version of the 16-inch blade M1905 bayonet. This is a superb quality manufacture bayonet with clean and crisp lines and about 95% of the original bluing remaining. Also, this is a very rare “brown grips” type specimen – just a tiny batch of WW2 grips came in brown plastic; most were made as standard-issue black plastic (phenol-formaldehyde resin similar to Bakelite) – a nice find!  Brown grips were made from an earlier type of plastic (commonly called CAB) that wasn’t resistant to the solvents the army was using in the field, so the production of the CAB plastic grips was quickly discontinued. Only about 100,000 brown CAB grips were made in total; most were lost to the use and abuse in the field. “Brown-grips” bayonets were manufactured for about a month; a rare find these days. This bayonet is stamped U.C. / “flaming bomb” / US on ricasso on one side; the handle is stamped with the letter H on the spine. Muzzle ring is intact; brown plastic handle grips are in excellent condition with no nicks, dings, or cracks. No typical contact marks on the pommel.  Bayonet release mechanism is nice and tight and 100% functional. The bayonet is about 14-1/2″ / 36.8 cm overall; the blade is about 9-7/8″ / 25.5 cm long; original factory edge with no nicks or dings on the spine, the tip is a bit rounded. Original M7 composition scabbard is in very good condition with just some minor rust on the steel throat (cleanable). The underside plate is marked B3/5N. Overall, this rare unused “brown grips type” WW2 Utica M1 bayonet and its original M7 composition scabbard are in excellent condition; this type is scarce this nice. This original WW2 Utica M1 bayonet has not been cleaned or tampered with in any way, 100% original condition; these are the actual photos. Garand clips are not included with the lot I have a few more American bayonets and fighting knives, as well as some scarce European WW2 and WW1 fighting knives, daggers, trench knives and bayonets available for sale – please take a look in the store’s Militaria section.
