USA WW2 rare PAL Blade Co. 16-in blade M1905 bayonet dated 1942, scarce DETROIT GASKET composition scabbard

$25.8 $36.64
Description WW2 PAL M1905 bayonet dated 1942, uncut 16-inch blade; rare original Detroit Gasket composition scabbard.  Attractive “PAL M1905/lazy S scabbard” combo in excellent condition, considering the age; hard-to-find this nice and complete. Original WW2 era M1905 bayonet manufactured in 1942 by PAL Blade Co. (marked PAL on ricasso); scarce uncut 16″-blade specimen in rare practically unused condition.  A scarce bayonet type in general – mid-war most of the original M1905 bayonets were cut-down and re-furbished as the “short pattern” 10-inch blade bayonets often referred to as M1942. PAL Knife Co produced just 210,000 “long” M1905 bayonets before the production was switched to the 10-inch M1 bayonet standard. Most of the earlier PAL’s “long” bayonets have been shortened during the war; uncut PAL M1905s are hard to come by nowadays, especially in unused condition. This is a well-made bayonet with crisp lines and razor-sharp edge; ricasso is sharply stamped PAL / US “flaming bomb”/ 1942 on one side.  This bayonet looks unused; the blade has been sharpened to perfection; the tip is intact. No typical ding marks on the spine or the muzzle ring; the pommel is excellent with no contact marks. Original black plastic handle grips are near-perfect; all handle parts are tight with no play. The scabbard/bayonet release mechanism is excellent and 100% functional. This specimen is in better than average condition for the type. The bayonet is about 20-1/2″ / 52 cm overall; the blade is about 15-7/8″ / 40.5 cm. This M1905 comes with super-rare “lazy S” type scabbard made by Detroit Gasket Company – the scabbard throat is marked with a large mark that looks like a sideways “S” below the flaming ball. The “letter” is actually not a “lazy S” but rather the misapplied Detroit Gasket Co. logo – a “D” connected to and over a “G”. During the manufacturing somehow the marking got reversed. If seen correctly, the connected “D” and “G” letters are perfectly clear. Detroit Gasket Co. made a very limited quantity of these scabbards using a completely different technology for their composite materials; a rare find these days. Overall, this rare WW2 PAL M1905 bayonet / Detroit Gasket scabbard set is in very much serviceable condition still; you will not be disappointed. A desirable and highly collectible type; these uncut PAL M1905s are rare this nice and complete. This scarce WW2 PAL M1905 bayonet has not been cleaned or tampered with in any way, it is in 100% original “as is” condition.
