Description Australia WW2 1944 Gregsteel fighting knife made by Gregory Steel Products for US forces stationed in Australia; WW-II era British leather sheath signed WALT GARDNER. Rare Aussie fighter in great condition, considering the age. FREE EXPEDITED SHIPPING WITHIN THE U.S.  FOR THIS ITEM. Rare WW2 era fighting knife manufactured during WW2 for the American forces stationed in Australia – this is a VERY hard-to-find type nowadays. This specimen was made in 1944 by Gregory Steel Products (GREGSTEEL logo on ricasso) in Melbourne, Australia. The “Australian Commando” fighting knife was manufactured by at least 3 Australian companies during the war – see the scan of the original circa 1944 Whittingslowe Engineering ad attached (the scan is for reference only; the ad print is not included with the lot). The knife is used, but it is in better-than-average condition. This exact type is illustrated on pages 55-56 of the KNIVES OF THE UNITED STATES MILITARY WORLD WAR II book by Michael W Silvey – a well-established expert an author of many books on the subject of US military edged weapons (see the book’s page scan attached). This WW2 Australian Commando is in great overall condition – no edge nicks or hammer marks on the spine; saber-point high carbon steel blade is not pitted; the edge is very sharp still, the tip is intact. This fighting knife is about 10-3/4″ / 27.3 cm overall; the blade is about 5-3/4″ / 14.6 cm long.  GREGSTEEL / US 1944 stamp on ricasso; the guard is unmarked. Original wood handle grips with 3 iron pins and the extra-wide iron guard; no cracks or chips on the wood; a few minor scratches are noted for accuracy. The grips are tight; the guard is solid with no play. WW2 contemporary British leather scabbard is not original to the knife but it fits the blade perfectly. It is marked MADE IN ENGLAND on the hanger; the back is signed WALT GARDNER. The sheath is in great shape, considering the age. The leather is soft ands supple; all stitching, rivets, and keeper are intact. Almost 80 years after it was made this rare Australia WW2 1944 Gregsteel fighting knife is in 100% serviceable condition still. This type is hard to find in any condition these days. I have another Aussie WW2 fighting knife made by WE, but with the original scabbard included, please take a look. Don’t miss your chance to add these rare WW2 era Aussie fighters to your collection! This rare Australia WW2 1944 Gregsteel fighting knife has not been cleaned or tampered with in any way; it is in 100% original “as is” condition. These are the actual photos; Garand clips are not included with the knife I have a few more vintage Australian, American and European folders and fixed-blade knives available for sale – please check out our Collectable Blades section for similar listings.
