WW2 scarce Western model L71 “Seabee” model utility/fighting knife, blued blade, early-issue leather scabbard

$28.9 $40.46
Description WW2 Western L71 Seabee utility knife, blued 5-inch blade, original early-issue leather scabbard; scarce type in great condition, considering the age. REE EXPEDITED SHIPPING WITHIN THE U.S. FOR THIS ITEM. Original WW2 era American “Seabee” utility/fighting knife manufactured during the war by Western Cutlery in Boulder, Colorado. Scarce early-production type with original issue all-leather sheath (later issues came with NORD composition scabbards). Although it looks similar to MK1 utility knife, this is a much scarcer WW2 era US Navy issue “Seabee” model utility-fighting knife with a distinctive flat-ground blued 5″ blade and a large flat and round steel pommel. This exact type is illustrated on page 53 of the US MILITARY KNIVES, BOOK TWO by M.H. Cole – a well-established expert and the author of a number of books on the subject of the US military edged weapons (see the scan attached). The knife is about 8-3/4” / 22.2 cm overall; the blade is about 4-7/8″ / 12.4 cm. The edge is razor-sharp still; the tip is intact, no edge nicks or rust on the blade; about 80% of the original bluing remaining. Stacked leather washers handle with black and red fiber spacers at the ends, solid steel half-hilt hammer-like round iron pommel. The handle is solid, all parts are tight with no play. Leather washers are in great condition without the typical “seawater rot” so many of the USN knives are suffering from.  Original early-war leather scabbard is in very good shape; the leather is a bit dry with a few dark spots on the leather. Al original stitching, rivets, and keeper are intact. This WW2 Western L71 Seabee utility knife type is scarce in general and very hard-to-find in better grades nowadays – most of these “Seabee” knives were used as intended during the war and very few specimens survived to this day in good condition.  This specimen is in great shape overall, considering the age; you will not be disappointed! This attractive WW2 Western L71 Seabee utility knife has not been cleaned or tampered with in any way, they are in 100% original “as is” condition. These are the actual photos; Garand clips are not included with the lot I have a few more vintage American and European knives, as well as WW2 era combat knives and bayonets, scarce WW1 and WW2 fighting daggers and trench knives from other countries available for sale – please take a look in our Militaria section.
