York & Lancaster Regiment, who was sadly killed in action between the 1st and 3rd July 1916 at the Battle of the Somme. Remembered at Thiepval Memorial. British War Medal named to 24396 Pte. W. Parkinson. Y. & L. R. WW1 Victory Medal named to 24396 Pte. W. Parkinson. Y. & L. R. Memorial Plaque (Death Penny) named to William Parkinson Killed in Action – 1st to 3rd July 1916 William Parkinson was born in Doncaster and lived in Barnsley. He is listed in the 10th Battalion war diary as missing during the fighting 1/7/1916 – 3/7/1916 with it being later amended to “Killed”. His medal roll entry states that he was killed in action on 1st July 1916 but CWGC list him as killed on the 3rd July 1916. The medals are in good condition. Comes with research.
